A Re-examination of Communications
At the Gitxsan Hereditary Chief ’s office we are revisiting communications, for the longest time was a lone ranger job. The next phase will continue with three persons, two with internet, social media expertise. The goal continues to be reaching Gitxsan wherever they maybe on this planet earth. When the review is done, it will go to the executive director who will likely seek direction from the board of directors. Richard Sampson and I are looking at a new setup to put out information to the membership so that they can determine if the organization is doing the right thing, that is what it comes down to. We just need to revisit our game plan to see how we can be more effective. Some might say, we can’t afford this, and others can say we can’t afford to not do it.
A chart with a game plan, who does what? We have tried to make inroads with the young people as they are tomorrow’s leaders. Dollars have been acquired to hire four this summer.
In any political organization, there is suspicion and assumptions of this and that. The targets are usually those with high office hired or elected. In these offices there is usually a negotiated budget that has to be justified before it is approved. In our case, expenses have to be Treaty related. Dollars outside of the Treaty process is approved by all the Hereditary Chiefs. They too are at times tainted with suspicion and assumptions. There is nothing a person can do with that, if there was truth to wrong doing, breaching internal protocols can determine that.
In revisiting how we do communications, it shows we are doing our best. If we make reports on what the organization is doing, you can determine if they are indeed doing the right thing. You remind us all the time that our gwalaxyee’nst needs to remain intact and that is a very good reminder. What we do has to be good for our children not here yet, with that thinking, how can you go wrong.
Our proposal maybe fully met? Half met? Or not met at all. In any case we can use that renewed thinking the best we can with what we have. Have a good day.
