In an important meeting between the Executives of the North Central Municipal Association and the Northwest Tribal Treaty Nations, discussions of how the organizations can work together on issues of common interest were begun.

The Executives agreed to share information and begin working together towards formalizing the relationship. Areas of common interest to both organizations include;
economic development, health care, education, infrastructure, and transportation.

Both the North Central Municipal Association and the Northwest Tribal Treaty Nations believe that working together, in spirit of cooperation and trust, will lead to stability and
prosperity for all northern British Columbians.

Background Information

The North Central Municipal Association is one of five area associations within the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) and represents 40 communities from
100 Mile House to the Yukon border. Its purpose is to identify and illuminate issues that impact on British Columbia’s northern economy, its environment, and the social well
being of its people.

The Northwest Tribal Treaty Nations is an association of First Nations and Tribal groups in northern British Columbia. The traditional territory of the members extends from Haida Gwaii to beyond Prince George and into the lower area of the Yukon.
The Northwest Tribal Treaty Nations’ primary purpose is to review and work to improve the BCTC treaty process and to work on common issues together.
