WE ARE GITXSAN: An appeal to Canadians during the 2011 federal election.

With less than two weeks left in the federal election, the Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs have made an appeal to Canadians and federal and provincial politicians: Let us be full partners in Canadian Society with all the rights and responsibilities of all Canadians. In return we simply ask for the rights to our inheritance: The power to make decisions in regards to our traditional territories of 33,000 km. sq. and resources as recognized and described by the Supreme Court of Canada.

We are proud to be Gitxsan and have a strong language and culture. In 1997 the landmark Delgamuukw ruling recognized our existence, said that aboriginal title exists and mandated reconciliation with Canada. Since then progress has been far too slow. We have placed ads in today's editions of the Vancouver Sun, Victoria Times-Colonist, Ottawa Citizen, National Post Toronto Edition, and Embassy Magazine.
