Yoobx, Elmer Derrick - Chief Negotiator

Yoobx, Elmer Derrick - Chief Negotiator
24 March 2010 The year has been eventful. I have seen progress made by the Gitxsan Sim gii gyet on many fronts.

The negotiations have taken some interesting turns in the last months. We have stayed the course and with the help of Gordon Gibson at the working group table we have made some inroads with British Columbia. We will soon also make progress with Canada as our latest Chief Negotiator's meeting indicated that Canada is now willing to explore options.

The activity that Chiefs are involved with in deciding to what uses the lands may be put- land use planning - has taken a great deal of time and resources. The investments of the Gimlitxwit in land use planning will enable the Gitxsan Nations to table plans that the Crown can use when we agree to legislative objectives. Both the Crown and Gitxsan title holders have to agree on the legislative objectives.

One major project where we have made great advances is through the Carbon Credit project. The memorandum of understanding that has been signed with British Columbia will enable us to rehabilitate the forest lands that title holders have under their control.
